Midwest Fertilizer Company Announces President and CEO

Thursday, January 8, 2015

INDIANAPOLIS (January 8, 2015) - Midwest Fertilizer Company LLC today announced Mike Chorlton, who served as the owner's representative since 2013, as president and CEO.

"I am very pleased to lead this innovative company in the building of our state-of-the-art fertilizer manufacturing facility in Posey County that will serve farmers in Indiana and the Midwest," said Mike Chorlton, president and CEO, Midwest Fertilizer Company. "With an extremely talented team in place, we are preparing for the next phases of this project."

Since 2013, Chorlton has worked in Indiana on the development of the $2.6 billion fertilizer manufacturing project, which is one of the largest fertilizer manufacturing investments in the U.S. in more than 20 years.
Chorlton said Midwest Fertilizer Company has enjoyed tremendous support in Southwest Indiana and the incentives offered by Posey County are critically important to making this project a reality. As a result, Midwest Fertilizer has withdrawn its request with the Indiana Economic Development Corporation for state incentives which were modest relative to the size of the project. Midwest Fertilizer will devote its efforts to supporting Posey County in securing state funding for its Western Bypass, a road around Mount Vernon. According to Chorlton, this infrastructure has been needed for many years and it will benefit residents and businesses in the area, including Midwest Fertilizer.

Midwest Fertilizer Company successfully obtained its state and federal pre-construction permits and has been finalizing construction and marketing agreements. Midwest Fertilizer is developing an aggressive timeline for construction. A groundbreaking is anticipated in the first quarter of 2015 and the facility is expected to be fully operational in 2018.

In addition to Chorlton, the Midwest Fertilizer Company executive management team includes Les Wright, chief financial officer; Geoff Gailey, vice president human resources; Rod Oglesby, vice president of operations; and Bob Ellis, construction executive.

Prior to joining Midwest Fertilizer, Chorlton served as president and CEO of Parkland Fuel Corporation for seven years. Under Chorlton's leadership, Parkland Fuel Corporation became Canada's largest national independent fuel marketer. Chorlton also served as president and CEO of Saskferco Products Inc., where he led the successful fertilizer manufacturer for seven years. Saskferco was the last major greenfield nitrogen fertilizer business built and operated in

North America. With more than 30 years in the fertilizer, agribusiness and energy industries, Chorlton has held various key leadership positions in marketing, plant operations, distribution, customer service, and research and development.

Midwest Fertilizer Company LLC, headquartered in Indiana, plans to build and operate a world-class nitrogenous fertilizer manufacturing facility in Posey County. The $2.6 billion project will create 2,500 construction jobs over three years and establish a workforce of approximately 200 permanent employees. Groundbreaking is anticipated in first quarter 2015. Once operational in 2018, Midwest Fertilizer Company will provide U.S. farmers a reliable source of high-quality nitrogen fertilizer.
